The battle raged on, the cavern echoing with the sounds of magic, steel, and defiance. The shadowy figures emerging from the walls surrounded the party, their spectral forms wailing as they lunged forward.
"Hold the line!" [[Ellette|Ellette]] commanded, hurling a burst of sorcery that shattered a cluster of the spectral warriors.
[[Morgar Goldgard|Morgar]] unleashed torrents of flame from his staff, the fire consuming the shadows and illuminating the beautiful, gem-encrusted walls. "Burn, wretches! Feel the might of the arcane!"
[[Qwimby|Qwimby]] darted through the chaos, firing shot after shot from his gun. Each echoing blast seemed to dissipate another shadow, but his ammunition was running low. "This is why I hate ghosts!" he muttered, reloading with a practiced hand.
[[Zara Blackwood|Zara]] stood near the centre, strumming her lute with precision, her voice weaving an ethereal melody that bolstered the party. The tune was like a balm, healing wounds and mending resolve.
When the last of the shadowy figures fell, Zargathax descended upon them, his skeletal frame moving with surprising agility. His voice rang out with power as he conjured bolts of necrotic energy, battering the party one by one.
[[Karrut Styk|Karrut]], teeth gritted, slammed his staff into the ground. Vines burst forth from the rocky floor, ensnaring Zargathax's arm. "You won't escape this time, necromancer!"
Zargathax struggled against the magical bonds, his skeletal hand glowing with dark energy as he attempted to sever the vines. "Do you truly think you can bind me, mortal?"
While Zargathax was distracted, [[Morgar Goldgard|Morgar]] conjured a fiery inferno, forcing the necromancer to focus his defences. "Taste the flames of my wrath, lich!"
[[Qwimby|Qwimby]], from a safe distance, fired a precise shot at Zargathax’s exposed shoulder. The bullet ricocheted off his arcane barrier, but the impact caused him to falter just enough for [[Ellette|Ellette]] to seize her chance.
"Now!" she shouted, her blade shimmering with magical energy. She dashed forward, dodging debris and the remnants of Zargathax's spells. With a single, precise strike, she severed his arm at the elbow, the vines holding it in place.
Zargathax screamed, his voice a haunting mixture of rage and pain. "You insolent worms!" He thrust his remaining hand outward, creating a massive forcefield that sent the party flying backward.
The cavern trembled as Zargathax raised his skeletal hand, dark energy swirling. "Enough! You may have slowed me today, but when next we meet, it will be the end for you!"
With a surge of energy, he conjured a shimmering portal, stepping through it just as the cavern began to collapse. His voice echoed as the portal closed behind him: "Pray you are ready, for I shall be!"
The ground quaked violently, and the gemstones lining the walls shattered under the pressure. Rocks began to rain down as the waterfall's flow became a chaotic torrent.
"We have to move!" [[Zara Blackwood|Zara]] shouted, grabbing her lute as the group scrambled to their feet.
The crystal shattered as the princess fell to the ground, only being caught by [[Ellette|Ellette]] and [[Qwimby|Qwimby]]. The party ran toward the exit, dodging falling debris. The sound of crumbling stone was deafening, and the cavern's beautiful glow was replaced by darkness and chaos. Just as they thought they might not make it, a piercing roar echoed through the chamber.
A massive shape loomed above them the dragon they had freed earlier, Marik. His pale, metallic wings beat powerfully as he swooped down.
"Climb aboard, mortals!" Marik bellowed. "You’ve earned my favour—for now!"
The party barely managed to clamber onto the dragon’s back as the cavern began to collapse entirely. Marik roared, flying upward and dodging the falling rocks.
As they neared the entrance, a golden portal suddenly materialized in the air. Its radiant light was blinding, swirling with divine energy.
"What is that?!" [[Morgar Goldgard|Morgar]] yelled, clinging to one of Marik’s spines.
"I didn’t conjure it!" Marik growled. "But it seems fate has plans for you!"
The dragon flew through the portal, and the party was enveloped in a warm, glowing light. The intense energy overwhelmed them, and one by one, they succumbed to exhaustion, their vision fading to black.
For a brief moment, all was silent. Then, darkness consumed them.
