So the Dusk Wardens are led by three sisters called The Weavers. Their most important duty is to safeguard the Embers of Innocence. They use the Embers to weave together dreams. So every single child in Faerun creates an Ember of Innocence. Basically it’s created at the exact moment the harsh reality of the world takes away their childhood innocence. It’s the last echoing piece of that innocence before the child moves on to adulthood. The Dusk Wardens gather each and every Ember for the Weavers and they keep them safe in their sanctuary. They’re not really something physical, more a magical essence if that makes sense. ## Overview The Dusk Wardens are an ancient organisation tasked with the protection and collection of the Embers of Innocence. Operating throughout Faerûn, they serve the three sisters known collectively as the Weavers and are responsible for ensuring that every Ember created by mortal children is recovered and safely delivered to the Weavers' sanctuary. Unlike many orders, churches, or knightly organisations, the Dusk Wardens do not concern themselves with politics, warfare, or territorial disputes. Their efforts are devoted almost entirely to the preservation of the Embers and the maintenance of the dream-weaving traditions upheld by the Weavers. Many people live their entire lives without realising they have encountered a Dusk Warden. The organisation rarely seeks recognition and generally operates beyond the awareness of the wider world. ## Purpose The primary duty of the Dusk Wardens is the identification, collection, transportation, and protection of Embers of Innocence. Wardens are trained to detect the formation of new Embers and travel extensively throughout Faerûn to recover them before they are lost, corrupted, or taken by those who would misuse them. The order also safeguards ancient knowledge concerning dream weaving, the nature of the Embers, and the sanctuary maintained by the Weavers. ## The Weavers The Dusk Wardens answer directly to three sisters known as the Weavers. These sisters are the founders and leaders of the organisation and are entrusted with the preservation and use of the Embers. The exact nature, age, and origins of the Weavers are known only to a select few within the order. Most Wardens view them with deep respect and consider them the ultimate authority in all matters concerning the Embers. While the Weavers provide guidance and direction, they rarely leave their sanctuary. As a result, most day-to-day operations are carried out by senior members of the Dusk Wardens. ## Organisation The Dusk Wardens maintain a loose but effective structure. New recruits are trained as Initiates before becoming full Wardens. Experienced members often take responsibility for specific regions of Faerûn, maintaining networks of contacts and safe locations used during Ember recovery missions. Senior Wardens oversee larger territories and coordinate the activities of multiple Wardens when necessary. Communication within the order is highly organised despite its scattered nature, allowing information about newly formed Embers to travel quickly between members. ## Recruitment Potential recruits are usually identified through unusual magical sensitivity, strong empathy, or a natural ability to perceive dreams and emotions. Some are born with these talents, while others develop them through magical study or extraordinary experiences. Recruitment is selective, and many members spend years training before they are entrusted with the responsibility of recovering Embers. ## Beliefs The Dusk Wardens believe that innocence, imagination, and hope are valuable aspects of mortal existence and deserve preservation even after they are lost. Although members come from many different cultures and faiths, the organisation teaches that the Embers represent an important part of the natural cycle of life and growth. Most Wardens view their work as a form of stewardship rather than worship, seeing themselves as caretakers of something that belongs to all mortal peoples. ## Operations Dusk Wardens can be found almost anywhere in Faerûn. Some travel constantly, while others remain in specific regions for decades. Many operate under assumed identities, working as scholars, storytellers, healers, travellers, merchants, or teachers. These roles allow them to move freely and observe the communities under their watch without attracting attention. When an Ember is detected, a Warden is dispatched to recover it and ensure its safe delivery to the sanctuary. ## Reputation Knowledge of the Dusk Wardens is limited. Most common folk have never heard of them, and those who have often regard them as little more than folklore or children's stories. Among certain scholars, fey creatures, and magical organisations, however, the Dusk Wardens are recognised as a secretive but highly respected order with responsibilities that extend far beyond the understanding of most mortals. --- # Champions of the Dusk Wardens Champions of the Dusk Wardens are individuals personally chosen by the Weavers to defend the Embers of Innocence, the Sanctuary, and the ancient duties of the order. While most Dusk Wardens dedicate their lives to gathering, preserving, and safeguarding Embers, Champions exist to confront threats that cannot be resolved through vigilance alone. Their purpose is to protect that which is essential to the Weavers' work. This includes defending the Embers of Innocence from theft or corruption, safeguarding the Sanctuary, protecting the Weavers themselves, and responding to dangers that threaten the Dreaming Tapestry. Selection as a Champion is exceptionally rare. Most Dusk Wardens spend their entire lives in service without ever receiving the title. A prospective Champion is chosen directly by the Weavers and undergoes a sacred rite in which a fragment of the knowledge of the dream weavers essence is woven into their spirit. This bond permanently links them to the work of the Weavers and grants them a deeper understanding of dreams, Embers, and disturbances within the tapestry they maintain. Champions possess abilities beyond those of ordinary Wardens. Through their connection to the Ember essence woven into them, they can sense disruptions within the Dreaming Tapestry, perceive traces of corrupted dream magic, and identify threats that would otherwise remain hidden. These gifts make them uniquely suited to confronting creatures and individuals that seek to exploit, corrupt, or destroy the work of the Dusk Wardens. Unlike most members of the order, Champions often operate independently and answer directly to the Weavers. They are dispatched wherever their presence is required, whether that means recovering stolen Embers, hunting dream-feeding entities, investigating disturbances within the Dreaming Tapestry, or eliminating powerful threats beyond the capabilities of ordinary Wardens. The number of Champions is intentionally kept small. At any given time, only three to seven Champions serve the order. The Weavers believe that the title should never become common, and vacancies are filled only when they deem a worthy successor has been found. As a result, many generations pass with the same Champions serving the order, while some positions may remain vacant for years before a replacement is chosen. Among the Dusk Wardens, Champions are respected because of the trust placed in them by the Weavers. To be chosen as a Champion is considered one of the highest honours the order can bestow.
