I think a siege works well because it lets Rakau attack **everything Sordia Vignti cares about** instead of just showing up for a boss fight. The goal shouldn't be "Rakau attacks Alexandria." The goal should be: **Rakau arrives to destroy Karrut's legacy and prove that Talona is stronger than Chauntea.** --- # The Siege of Alexandria ### Premise Several days before the attack, ships begin washing ashore around Alexandria. The crews are dead. No signs of battle. No wounds. Just severe disease, blackened veins, fungal growths, and signs of rapid decay. Fish begin dying in the harbour. Livestock become sick. Several citizens develop a mysterious illness that local healers cannot identify. Then Rakau Nui arrives. --- # Rakau's Fleet Rakau commands a small flotilla of corrupted vessels. Not a navy. A plague fleet. Every ship is covered in: - Barnacles - Fungal growths - Rotting sails - Diseased coral Talona's symbol is painted on the sails. Rakau remains aboard the flagship until later in the siege. --- # Phase 1: The Harbour The first attack targets Alexandria's port. Rakau unleashes giant sea creatures empowered by Talona. Ideas: ### Giant Diseased Giant Octopus Wraps around docks and drags ships beneath the water. ### Corrupted Giant Crabs Act as siege monsters. Break harbour defences. ### Giant Rot Whales Dead whales reanimated by disease. Crash into sea walls. Burst and release plague clouds. ### Swarms of Diseased Reef Sharks Prevent anyone escaping by sea. --- # Phase 2: Disease Within the City While the party is dealing with the harbour, the real attack begins. Talona cultists infiltrate Alexandria. Water supplies become contaminated. Disease spreads. Healing magic becomes less effective. Panic starts. The party now has multiple objectives. Examples: - Protect the hospital. - Protect the temple district. - Secure the wells. - Save infected NPCs. - Stop cultists. This creates pressure without making it a single combat encounter. --- # Phase 3: Rakau's Declaration Once Alexandria is weakened, Rakau approaches the city. Not alone. He arrives riding a massive sea creature. Something memorable. Examples: ### Giant Dragon Turtle ### Ancient Sea Serpent ### Corrupted Dragon Turtle ### Homebrew Plague Kraken Personally I'd use a **Corrupted Dragon Turtle**. It's strong enough to threaten Alexandria without feeling like a world-ending monster. --- # Rakau's Objective Rakau is not trying to conquer Alexandria. He wants to destroy symbols connected to Karrut. Potential targets: - A shrine to Chauntea. - A grove planted by Karrut. - A statue of Sordia Vignti. - A temple that reveres Karrut's ascension. Something that represents everything Rakau believes ruined his life. --- # Phase 4: The Final Battle The party fights Rakau. During the battle he is empowered by Talona. Mechanically: ### Aura of Pestilence Creatures near him risk disease. ### Corrupted Healing Healing received near Rakau is reduced. ### Plague Wave Necrotic and poison damage. ### Blessing of Talona When reduced below certain HP thresholds he mutates. Not a transformation into a monster. More like: - Coral growths. - Tumours. - Diseased tentacles. - Fungal armour. Showing Talona's influence physically. --- # Aftermath If Rakau dies: - Talona's blessing leaves his body. - The diseases begin to recede. - Alexandria survives. If Rakau escapes: - Alexandria survives but suffers major losses. - Rakau becomes a recurring villain. - Talona gains influence along the coast. Personally, I'd have Rakau **escape the first encounter**. You've spent time building him up from a former ally, a witness to Karrut's ascension, and now a Talona champion. That's enough material for a recurring villain rather than a one-session boss. The siege can be his introduction as an active threat while setting up a larger Talona storyline later.
