### _The Kingdom That Was, The Blood-Stained Throne, The Tyrant Who Lost It All_
Most **Darklords of Ravenloft** rule over **lands shaped by their own sins, cursed to endure their own personal torment for all eternity**.
But **Gundarak** is different.
Because **Gundarak no longer exists.**
It was once **a mighty kingdom**, a land of **mountains and castles, walled cities and strongholds**, ruled with **iron discipline and unrelenting cruelty**.
It was a land where **fear was law**, where the people **lived and died at the whims of their sovereign**, where **rebellion was met with impalement and mercy was an unknown concept**.
And at its head sat **Duke Gundar**, the **Darklord of Gundarak, the Bloody Duke, the Warlord of the Mountains, the Undying Tyrant**.
He was **powerful, cunning, ruthless**—and for a time, **he was unchallenged**.
But **no ruler reigns forever**.
And now, **Gundarak is gone**.
His **kingdom has been taken from him**, his **power stripped**, his **people lost**.
His name is **spoken only in whispers**, a **boogeyman to those who remember his rule**.
And **his throne?**
**It belongs to another.**
And **for a Darklord, there is no greater torment.**
---
## **A Land That No Longer Exists**
Once, **Gundarak stretched across the mountains**, a land of **high cliffs and deep valleys, strongholds built to withstand sieges, cities that cowered under the watchful eye of the Duke's enforcers**.
Its people were **strong, but broken**, forced to endure **hardship, war, and the constant shadow of their ruler’s cruelty**.
Duke Gundar demanded **absolute loyalty**.
- **Dissenters were executed.**
- **Rebels were impaled on great spikes outside his castle.**
- **Entire villages were razed for suspected disloyalty.**
His **black-armored soldiers**, the **Gundarakite elite**, patrolled the roads, ensuring that **no one questioned the Duke's rule**.
And for years, his **grip never faltered**.
But then, came the **fall.**
---
## **The Fall of Gundarak**
Unlike most Darklords, who remain **unchallenged in their rule**,
**Duke Gundar was overthrown.**
**Strahd von Zarovich**, the **vampire lord of Barovia**, turned his gaze toward **Gundarak** and saw **an opportunity**.
With **cold strategy and terrifying precision**,
**Strahd invaded.**
- **The Gundarakite armies fell before him.**
- **The castles that had once withstood years of siege collapsed like paper before the vampire lord’s might.**
- **The people, long suffering under Gundar’s rule, saw no reason to fight for him.**
And so, **Gundarak fell**.
Its cities were **absorbed into Barovia**, its people **became vassals of Strahd**, and **Duke Gundar himself was cast down**.
For the first time, a **Darklord was stripped of his kingdom**.
And **now, he is nothing.**
---
## **The Curse of Duke Gundar**
Duke Gundar is **not dead**.
He is **a vampire, an undead warlord, a monster who should have been unkillable**.
But **his kingdom is gone**.
His **rule has been erased**.
And **his torment is absolute**.
Now, he **hides in the shadows**, a **disgraced tyrant**, watching as **Strahd sits upon the throne that should have been his**, knowing that he **was cast aside like a failed pretender**.
And worst of all?
**Strahd does not fear him.**
Strahd does not **hunt him**.
Strahd does not **consider him a threat**.
Strahd does not **acknowledge his existence**.
**To Strahd, Duke Gundar is already dead.**
And **that is the cruelest fate of all**.
---
## **The Ghosts of Gundarak**
Though **Gundarak is no more**, its **people have not forgotten**.
There are still **Gundarakite refugees**, those who **fled Strahd’s conquest**, those who **live as outcasts, rebels, and wanderers**.
Some whisper of **a new uprising**, a **war to reclaim what was lost**.
Some believe that **Gundar still waits in the dark**, preparing to **strike back, to take revenge, to seize his throne once more**.
But others **laugh at the idea**.
For they know the truth.
Duke Gundar is **not a ruler anymore**.
He is **a relic of the past**.
A **ghost in his own land**,
A **king without a crown**,
A **warrior who has already lost his war**.
And though he **dreams of vengeance**,
Though he **plots in the ruins of his once-great castles**,
Though he **longs to crush Strahd beneath his heel**—
**The Dark Powers have already judged him.**
And they have **no interest in his ambition anymore.**
Because in Ravenloft,
There is **nothing more pathetic than a Darklord without a domain.**
---
## **The Fate of a Fallen Tyrant**
Duke Gundar is **not dead**, but he **might as well be**.
He is **a ruler with no kingdom, a general with no army, a predator without a hunting ground**.
And though he **clings to his past**,
Though he **tells himself that he will rise again**,
Though he **whispers in the dark of the revenge he will take**,
**He knows the truth.**
He will **never be a king again**.
He will **never reclaim what was lost**.
He will **never be feared like he once was**.
And so, he waits.
A **forgotten nightmare**, lurking in the ruins, watching as **Strahd von Zarovich sits upon his throne**,
And knowing, in his heart, that **he will never sit upon it again.**
---
## **The Last Warning**
If you hear whispers of **Gundarak**,
If you meet **a Gundarakite who still speaks of rebellion**,
If you find yourself **wandering the ruins of a forgotten castle** in the mountains—
**Turn back.**
Because Duke Gundar **may no longer be a king**,
But he is still a **monster**.
And if he cannot **rule his people**,
Then he will **feed upon them instead.**
