_The Perceptual Tongue of the Far Realm_

> It replaces it.”

## I. Origins & Mythic History
Deep Speech does not originate from any plane recognised by conventional cosmology.
The earliest credible references to it appear in fragmented pre-imperial records describing **voices without mouths**, **symbols that were not seen**, and **ideas that arrived already understood**. These accounts predate all confirmed aberrant incursions and suggest that Deep Speech was encountered before it was ever _heard_.
Unlike Draconic, which names reality, or Celestial, which witnesses it, Deep Speech appears to arise from a realm where the distinction between **perception and expression does not exist**.
Scholars therefore do not classify Deep Speech as a constructed language.
They classify it as a **cognitive environment**.
To encounter Deep Speech is not to hear foreign words.
It is to be briefly forced to think in a way that is not one’s own.
---
## II. Historical Contact
Deep Speech does not spread.
It **appears**.
Every confirmed instance of Deep Speech entering the mortal record coincides with:
- Far Realm breaches
- aberrant manifestations
- ancient abolethic structures
- mind flayer enclaves
- or artefacts not aligned to known planar strata
There is no evidence of cultural transmission. No evidence of teaching. No evidence of stable pedagogy.
Those who know Deep Speech did not learn it.
They **survived exposure**.
Even then, most retain only fragments — perceptual residues that permit partial comprehension rather than fluency.
---
## III. Nature of the Tongue
Deep Speech is not sequential.
It does not proceed word by word. Meaning arrives in **clusters**: shape, intention, implication, and emotional resonance compressed into a single cognitive event.
Attempting to vocalise Deep Speech forces the mind to linearise something that is not linear. The result is speech that:
- stutters across impossible consonants
- layers incompatible sounds
- or manifests as tones that listeners feel rather than hear
Deep Speech excels at expressing:
- non-spatial geometry
- recursive causality
- internal perspective
- parasitic identity
- truths that cannot coexist safely
It is incapable of naturally expressing:
- metaphor
- narrative
- humour
- or moral abstraction
These must be forcibly mapped, often producing distortion.
---
## IV. Script & Recorded Forms
There is no known native script of Deep Speech.
What scholars catalogue are **approximation systems**:
- glyph clusters representing thought-structures
- impossible diagrams mapping perception rather than space
- sigils that induce understanding rather than encode it
These records are rarely stable.
Common effects reported by archivists include:
- shifting line relationships
- afterimages not matching the source
- symbols that appear only in peripheral vision
- and diagrams that make sense only while being forgotten
Most academies restrict Deep Speech documentation to **concept-maps**, not transcription.
The page is not meant to be read.
It is meant to be **survived**.
---
## V. Cultural Weight
Among aberrations, Deep Speech is not “spoken”.
It is **inhabited**.
Creatures such as aboleths and mind flayers do not exchange Deep Speech. They align through it. Communication is often simultaneous, mutual, and recursive.
Among mortals, knowledge of Deep Speech carries extreme stigma. It implies:
- mental contamination
- memory loss
- planar exposure
- or contact with entities that do not respect individuality
In several mage orders, even claiming to understand Deep Speech is sufficient grounds for confinement.
Not as punishment.
As **containment**.
---
## VI. Magic & Metaphysics
Deep Speech does not interact with magic as other tongues do.
It bypasses spell structure and instead interfaces directly with **conceptual architecture**.
Incantations incorporating Deep Speech rarely specify outcomes. Instead, they destabilise the assumptions that make outcomes predictable.
Where Draconic structures magic, Infernal constrains it, and Abyssal provokes it, Deep Speech **redefines the framework in which magic is possible**.
This is why Far Realm phenomena often defy established schools of magic. They are not breaking the rules.
They are **operating under others**.
Translation magic does not fail with Deep Speech.
It misleads.
The meaning is rendered.
The mind is not protected.
---
## VII. Attested Impressions
Because Deep Speech is not truly linguistic, examples are recorded as **experienced effects**, not phrases.
**“You are seen from inside.”**
Effect: Immediate awareness of one’s own internal processes being observed.
Usage: Reported during abolethic contact and failed scrying rituals.
---
**“Open the angle.”**
Effect: Perception of an impossible spatial relationship, often followed by the appearance of a non-standard aperture.
Usage: Aberrant breaches, dimensional collapse events.
---
**“This thought is not alone.”**
Effect: Realisation that a concept has internal agency.
Usage: Precursor to possession, parasitic memory, or false inspiration.
---
**“Your shape is negotiable.”**
Effect: Destabilisation of bodily self-concept.
Usage: Transmutation catastrophes, aberrant blessings.
---
## VIII. Archivist’s Marginalia
> “Deep Speech leaves no consistent lexicon because it leaves no consistent thinker.
>
> The danger is not that it whispers lies.
>
> The danger is that it whispers structures in which lies are no longer a meaningful category.”
---
## Alexandrian Classification Note
Deep Speech is recorded among the **Perceptual Tongues**, systems not of communication, but of **cognition**. They are studied not to be spoken, but to be recognised when they are already present.
