Cobb was abandoned young. Too large, too rough-looking, too frightening for people who judged him before he could speak for himself. The hag took him in, though whether from cruelty or usefulness, he never knew.
He grew up doing the hardest work, hauling water, chopping wood, lifting what no other child could lift. The hag used his strength often, and for years Cobb believed that was all he was good for. Strength. Nothing more.
But the younger children followed him when they were afraid. Hid behind him when the hag was angry. And somewhere along the way, Cobb became their shield without ever meaning to.
When Sordia Vignti found him, he was trying to hold a barred door shut so the others could escape. Now he is gentle in ways people do not expect. He carries smaller children when they are tired, rescues injured animals, and apologises too often for taking up space.
But slowly, Cobb is beginning to understand, He was never something to be feared. He was always someone meant to protect.
