Tuck has been running for as long as he can remember. He grew up in a village where there was never enough food, never enough patience, and never much room for a boy who asked too many questions and sat still for none of them. He learned early that trouble found him whether he meant it to or not.
One day, chasing something he shouldn’t have into the marsh, he wandered too far and never found his way back. The hag found him first. Tuck survived by refusing to stop moving. He climbed where he wasn’t meant to climb, slipped through places too small to follow, and turned disobedience into a kind of shield. Even when frightened, he made a game of danger.
Especially when frightened. When Sordia Vignti found him, Tuck was halfway up a roof beam trying to escape through the chimney.
Now he is always in motion, scaling walls, darting through halls, asking impossible questions, and touching things he has absolutely been told not to touch. But slowly, he is learning something new. Not every place has to be escaped.
