They sailed a ramshackle junk-ship built from wreckage and stolen hulls, preying on rivers, coasts, and forgotten trade routes. Squeeb served as a trap-setter, powder runner, and rigger — small, fast, and eager to prove himself. >During a raid gone wrong, Squeeb uncovered that his captain had sold out part of the crew to slavers in exchange for maps to a so-called dragon grave-shoal. When Squeeb confronted him, fear won over loyalty. >The crew turned on him. >He was beaten, chained to a broken mast, and thrown overboard. >He should have died. >Instead, he washed ashore days later, half-mad with fever, dragging iron and splintered wood behind him. It was there, in the reeds and wreckage, that three ducks first approached him. He fed them crumbs. He talked to them. He named them. >And when he finally stood again, they followed. >Weeks later, it was **Sordia Vignti** who found him, a half-starved kobold surrounded by ducks, saluting driftwood and arguing with seabirds. They fed him, defended him, and brought him back to Alexandria. >For the first time since the Scalded Wake, Squeeb was invited aboard a crew. >Recognising his genuine nautical skill, obsessive maintenance habits, and fierce protectiveness of the keep’s lower levels, [[Ellette]] formally appointed him Dock Master of Sordia Vignti, placing him in charge of docks and Port management >Squeeb accepted through tears, a salute, and a full ceremony involving bread crumbs. >He has served the Guild ever since. ## **Personality** > [!abstract] **GUILD ARCHIVE • PERSONAL HISTORY**> >Squeeb is **erratic, theatrical, and emotionally exposed**. He swings between booming pirate bravado and wounded sincerity, often in the same sentence. > >- **Still a pirate at heart**: speaks in nautical metaphors, keeps “watches,” calls corridors “passageways.” >- **Marked by betrayal**: deeply uncomfortable around self-proclaimed captains and rigid hierarchies. >- **Utterly devoted to his ducks**: they are his crew, his family, and his emotional anchors. >- **Explosive when provoked**: especially if his ducks or Sordia Vignti are threatened. >- **Painfully genuine**: his loyalty is absolute once given. > >He does not joke about betrayal. He jokes about everything else. ## **Appearance** > [!info] **GUILD RECORD** >A small, red-scaled kobold with a wiry, rope-lean build. Old burn scars climb his neck and shoulders from his days aboard the Scalded Wake. > He wears a battered, oversized pirate coat with tarnished gold trim, often hanging off one shoulder. Beneath it he goes shirtless, proudly displaying a cheap skull medallion he insists marks him as “true captain stock.” > His tricorn hat is his most prized possession, carefully cut to allow his horns through. He smells faintly of salt, oil, feathers, and bread. ## **Relationships** ### **The Crew** > [!abstract] **GUILD ARCHIVE • PERSONAL HISTORY** >Squeeb’s ducks are not a gag to him. They are officers. >- **Goose** – the biggest and boldest. Acts as “first mate.” Often sits on his shoulder or head. >- **Burt** – aggressive, territorial, prone to biting. “Security officer.” >- **Lucy** – quieter, follows him closely. “Navigator.” > He talks to them constantly, conducts roll calls, apologises before danger, and thanks them after fights. He believes they chose him. ### **Sordia Vignti** > [!info] **GUILD RECORD** >The first people who did not laugh, chain him, or throw him away. >He is fiercely loyal to the Guild, deeply attached to the keep, and takes his title of **Dock Master** with sacred seriousness. He maintains the docks, Ports , and anything that feels like "a Dock Cap'n Job.” >[[Ellette]]’s appointment of him is one of the few times he speaks her name without humour. ### **The Scalded Wake** > [!info] **GUILD RECORD** >He refers to them as “dead men sailing.” If they still live, Squeeb does not know. If he ever learns they do, it will become a campaign. ## **Notable Events** > [!info] **GUILD RECORD** >- **The Keelhauling of Squeeb**: his betrayal and attempted execution by the Scalded Wake. >- **The Guild’s Mercy**: Sordia Vignti bringing him back to Alexandria. >- **The Appointment**: [[Ellette]] naming him Dock Master of Sordia Vignti. >- **First Blood in the [[City of Alexandria]]**: the first time someone tried to harm one of his ducks. Squeeb blinded them with sand and bit through a finger. > He still wears part of the original shackle hidden beneath his coat. ## The Feathered Tide <div style="max-width:1100px;margin:0 auto;padding:14px 12px;"> <div style=" background: #0a0c12; border: 2px solid #7c3aed; border-radius: 18px; padding: 16px;"> <div style="text-align:center;"> <img src="FeatheredCrew.png" alt="Feathered Crew portrait" style=" width:100%; max-width:520px; height:auto; border-radius: 18px; border: 2px solid rgba(124,58,237,.55); box-shadow: 0 14px 35px rgba(0,0,0,.18);"> </div> </div> </div> > [!abstract] **GUILD ARCHIVE • PERSONAL HISTORY** > Though to most they are simply ducks, to Squeeb they are officers, veterans, and survivors. He introduces them formally, by name and “rank,” and becomes deeply offended if they are dismissed as animals. ### **Goose, First Mate** > [!info] **GUILD RECORD** >The largest of the three and easily the boldest. > Goose is broad-chested, loud, and fearless to the point of stupidity. He regularly perches on Squeeb’s shoulder or hat, bites anyone who gets too close too fast, and honks aggressively at raised voices. Squeeb claims Goose once “stared down a wolf,” which may or may not have been a dog. > To Squeeb, Goose is his second-in-command — the one who “keeps morale up and fear down.” > In practice, Goose acts as an early-warning system, becoming agitated before danger, intruders, or storms. Whether instinct or something stranger guides him is unclear. > Squeeb trusts Goose’s reactions more than he trusts most people. ### **Burt, Security Officer** > [!info] **GUILD RECORD** >Smaller than Goose, but meaner. > Burt is a pale-feathered drake with a crooked beak and a taste for toes. He hisses, charges, and nips without hesitation, especially at strangers, boots, or anything shiny. Of the three, he is the most territorial and the least tolerant. > Squeeb insists Burt is “crew security,” responsible for “boarding actions, perimeter defence, and discipline.” > Burt sleeps near doorways, supply crates, and Squeeb’s belongings. Anyone sneaking into a space Squeeb considers “his deck” will almost certainly meet Burt first. > Several guild members have scars to prove it. ### **Lucy, Navigator** > [!info] **GUILD RECORD** >The quiet one. > Lucy is a pale-feathered duck with a torn wing tip and dark, intelligent eyes. She rarely strays far from Squeeb and often sits close against his leg or pack. Unlike Goose and Burt, Lucy almost never makes noise unless something is wrong. > Squeeb calls her his navigator, claiming she “knows where safe water is” and “can feel when the wind changes.” > Lucy has an uncanny tendency to lead Squeeb away from unstable floors, bad paths, and approaching trouble — often seconds before others notice anything. > Whether this is coincidence, animal instinct, or something touched by the same fate that saved Squeeb is unknown. > Squeeb thanks her after every journey.
