To nearby settlements it was said to be a peaceful druid circle — a refuge for wounded land and unwanted children. To Karrut, it was simply home. > Found as an infant at the forest’s edge, he was taken in without question and named **Karrut**, meaning _Second Growth_. He grew among moss and rain-dark leaves, taught to read soil, follow animal paths, and coax life from places others had abandoned. Their rituals were strange but gentle. Karrut believed they were druids. They never corrected him. > Greenwake Grove was a cult. They believed the old god of field and forest had fallen silent, and that one day a mortal would rise to become the land’s new voice. They believed that child was Karrut. They did not raise him to worship nature. They raised him to carry it. > When Karrut was fifteen, the grove was destroyed by the **Covenant of the Ninth**, devotees of **[[Asmodeus, Devil God of Nessus]]**. Infernal fire swept the trees. The people who raised him were slaughtered. Karrut survived by hiding within a hollow oak. By morning, Greenwake Grove was gone — and Karrut was alone. > He buried what bodies he could. As he unleashed this divine energy, he purified the blighted land and cast Kazgorath back into the shadows. In that moment, Karrut glimpsed his true nature he was Chauntea incarnate, reborn to protect life against her eternal enemy.
