The house was not known for its influence or power but for it’s commitment to helping it’s subjects. The house had a reputation for raising its sons as knights that serve the within the ranks of the [[Axe of Mirabar. Ranks & Titles| Axe of Mirabar]], it was seen as the highest honour among the men of the house. When Lucan was born the house was well past it’s prime, however he still was raised as a faithful squire to his uncle, Sir Godfrey, he was trained in polishing armour, tending horses and how to use a range of weapons. His uncle had instilled a deep sense of duty within him, that it is a knight’s duty to protect the innocent no matter the cost. It was Lucan’s dream to one day join the[[Axe of Mirabar. Ranks & Titles| Axe of Mirabar]] and defend the people Lucan gained minor battle experience during his teens, squiring for his uncle during the defence against small raids on the estate and grew to have an affinity with war hammers. > During the fall of [[Mirabar]], House Easeden had been called upon to help relieve the siege, but due to their weakened state they arrived too late. As Lucan rode with his lifelong comrades, they saw the distant horrors rampaging throughout the city, a magical plague choking the streets, the dead rising in its wake, and above it all a Necromancer of Great power, who had shed his mortal form and become a **gargantuan dragon of living darkness**, his shadow spreading death with every pass. > The men charged bravely, cutting into the plague-ridden streets in a desperate attempt to save who they could, but their efforts were in vain. The undead came in endless waves, raised as quickly as they were felled, and the living were overwhelmed beneath claw, corpse, and corruption. > Lucan froze atop his horse on the edge of the battlefield, his body locked in shock at the sight of his lifelong friends being torn to shreds. He had never seen a massacre of this magnitude, nor one so utterly hopeless. > He saw his uncle, the man who raised him, be dragged from his horse by walking corpses and disembowelled. > Consumed by fear he turned his horse around and fled like a coward, abandoning every ideal he had been taught. He dared not return home as he would surely be hung for cowardice > In the following months he drifted from city to city, hiding the house crest from his armour. He spent countless nights vomiting from the shame and disgust he felt. After months of shame he mustered the courage to return home and face punishment for, his failure but all he found was burnt ruins. He knelt near a burnt and damaged banner of House Easeden where he made an oath of devotion.
